How to strengthen iman in islam

iman in islam

What is the Iman in Islam ?

Iman, often translated as faith or belief, holds a central position in Islam, shaping the beliefs and practices of Muslims worldwide. It encompasses a deep conviction in the heart, sincere acknowledgment by the tongue, and practical implementation through actions. The concept of Iman is rooted in the six articles of faith, which include belief in Allah, the angels, the revealed books, the prophets, the Day of Judgment, and divine decree.

Understanding Iman

Iman is not merely a passive acceptance of these articles of faith but a dynamic force that influences every aspect of a Muslim’s life. It serves as the foundation for one’s relationship with Allah, guiding behavior, attitudes, and interactions with others. The Quran emphasizes the significance of Iman, stating that it is the criterion for distinguishing right from wrong and the key to attaining success in this life and the Hereafter.

How to strengthen iman in islam

The multifaceted nature of Iman comprises several essential elements:

  1. Belief in the Unseen: Iman involves firm belief in elements beyond human perception, such as the existence of Allah, the angels, and the afterlife.

  2. Certainty: It necessitates unwavering conviction and assurance in the truth of the Islamic tenets.

  3. Sincerity: Iman demands genuine and wholehearted devotion to Allah, free from doubts and hypocrisy.

  4. Acceptance and Submission: It entails embracing the divine guidance and submitting to the will of Allah without reservation.

  5. Action: Iman motivates believers to perform righteous deeds, embodying their faith through acts of worship, compassion, and moral conduct.

The Iman in Hadith

  1. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Faith (Belief) consists of more than sixty branches (i.e. parts). And Haya (This term “Haya” covers a large number of concepts which are to be taken together; amongst them are self respect, modesty, bashfulness, and scruple, etc.) is a part of faith.” Sahih al-Bukhari 9
  2. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “None of you will have faith till he wishes for his (Muslim) brother what he likes for himself.” Sahih al-Bukhari 15
  3. “Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said, “By Him in Whose Hands my life is, none of you will have faith till he loves me more than his father and his children.”  Sahih al-Bukhari 14
  4. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Whoever possesses the following three qualities will have the sweetness (delight) of faith:

    1. The one to whom Allah and His Apostle becomes dearer than anything else.

    2. Who loves a person and he loves him only for Allah’s sake.

    3. Who hates to revert to Atheism (disbelief) as he hates to be thrown into the fire.” Sahih al-Bukhari 16

  5. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Love for the Ansar is a sign of faith and hatred for the Ansar is a sign of hypocrisy.”Sahih al-Bukhari 17

Nurturing Iman

Maintaining and enhancing Iman is a lifelong endeavor for Muslims. It involves continuous reflection, seeking knowledge, performing acts of worship, and engaging in virtuous deeds. Additionally, nurturing Iman is facilitated through the remembrance of Allah, supplication, and adherence to the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

The Iman In The Quran

  1. وَٱعْلَمُوٓا۟ أَنَّ فِيكُمْ رَسُولَ ٱللَّهِ ۚ لَوْ يُطِيعُكُمْ فِى كَثِيرٍۢ مِّنَ ٱلْأَمْرِ لَعَنِتُّمْ وَلَـٰكِنَّ ٱللَّهَ حَبَّبَ إِلَيْكُمُ ٱلْإِيمَـٰنَ وَزَيَّنَهُۥ فِى قُلُوبِكُمْ وَكَرَّهَ إِلَيْكُمُ ٱلْكُفْرَ وَٱلْفُسُوقَ وَٱلْعِصْيَانَ ۚ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلرَّٰشِدُونَ ٧, —– And keep in mind that Allah’s Messenger is ˹still˺ in your midst. If he were to yield to you in many matters, you would surely suffer ˹the consequences˺.1 But Allah has endeared faith to you, making it appealing in your hearts. And He has made disbelief, rebelliousness, and disobedience detestable to you. Those are the ones rightly guided.
  2. مَنْ عَمِلَ صَـٰلِحًۭا مِّن ذَكَرٍ أَوْ أُنثَىٰ وَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌۭ فَلَنُحْيِيَنَّهُۥ حَيَوٰةًۭ طَيِّبَةًۭ ۖ وَلَنَجْزِيَنَّهُمْ أَجْرَهُم بِأَحْسَنِ مَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ —— Whoever does good, whether male or female, and is a believer, We will surely bless them with a good life, and We will certainly reward them according to the best of their deeds.
  3. وَكَذَٰلِكَ أَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَيْكَ رُوحًۭا مِّنْ أَمْرِنَا ۚ مَا كُنتَ تَدْرِى مَا ٱلْكِتَـٰبُ وَلَا ٱلْإِيمَـٰنُ وَلَـٰكِن جَعَلْنَـٰهُ نُورًۭا نَّهْدِى بِهِۦ مَن نَّشَآءُ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا ۚ وَإِنَّكَ لَتَهْدِىٓ إِلَىٰ صِرَٰطٍۢ مُّسْتَقِيمٍۢ —– And so We have sent to you ˹O Prophet˺ a revelation by Our command. You did not know of ˹this˺ Book and faith ˹before˺. But We have made it a light, by which We guide whoever We will of Our servants. And you are truly leading ˹all˺ to the Straight Path—

My son is 13 years old and he takes lessons with WafaaKids for one hour a week. They are very satisfied and their voluntarily asked for another lesson - otherwise he will never study voluntarily. WafaaKids teacher's responds to the student's wishes, their youthful, polite manner and is highly recommended. Already from the first unit I noticed a progress with my son. I'm very satisfied.
